The Type Of Shoes You Need For Your Insoles

Running Shoes

Your choice of footwear can greatly determine the state of your feet. Considering, we have our shoes on for the major part of the day, choosing the right kind of footwear can make a big impact on foot health.

Purchasing good shoes becomes even more necessary when you’re pairing them up with insoles. Otherwise, your insoles will not be as effective and you won’t notice much of a difference in your feet.

If you’re confused about what type of shoes to buy for your insoles, then it’s worth understanding the effect of footwear especially of the wrong kind on your feet. Keep in mind that this effect can worsen while performing physical activities such as running or cycling.

Running Shoes
Choosing the right footwear is especially important for athletes.

For example, as a runner, you’ll have greater chances of developing blisters with shoes that are a size smaller than your actual size. This is because the shoe will constantly rub against your foot causing friction to be produced during running.

Your toes will also feel cramped, increasing your chances of having blackened toes or losing your toenails right off the nail bed. You might even be at a greater risk of developing bunions as your toes struggle to move properly the entire time.

Another factor that can indicate that it’s time to change your shoes is if you notice abnormal changes in the way you walk. When your shoes are uncomfortable, your body will try and make adjustments to maintain balance and stability.

These adjustments can increase pressure on your muscles and joints, leading to pain in your feet, ankles, knees, hip or back. This is why you need to recognise the right pair of shoes for your feet early on.

While shopping for shoes, ask yourself the following questions:

1. Are they comfortable to wear?
2. Does the shoe design help your foot condition?
3. Do they fit your feet well?

Comfort

There is no point in purchasing shoes that are not comfortable to wear. This applies more if you have a job that keeps you on your feet for long.

Your feet require cushioned support to protect certain areas of the foot from excess stress. This support maximises when you combine your insole with the right kind of shoe.

Fashionable shoes such as stilettos and other high heels can leave your feet bruised and damaged in a number of ways. This is because of the narrow design of the footwear that compresses the toes and affects movement.

High-heeled shoes can also cause changes in your overall posture which ultimately stress certain parts of the body such as your low back or your hips. This is why more women suffer from pain in their feet or lower back.

High Heels

The fabric of the shoe also matters especially if you have diabetic feet. You want a pair with a soft interior fabric and no loose stitching to avoid harsh contact with the feet.

Otherwise, you’ll be at a greater risk of developing blisters or wounds that can turn into ulcers and may possibly lead to serious consequences.

If you’re overweight or obese and are looking to get into shape, choose a neutral pair of walking shoes that offer higher durability and better support. Adding your insole in will further enhance the strength of your ankle muscles to protect you from falls.

Shoe design

The design of the shoe matters in the treatment of your foot condition. For example, if you have a bunion, you’ll need a shoe that has wide toe spacing, so your toes have enough room to move freely.

Since it is common to feel pain in the arch and heel with plantar fasciitis, it would be worth investing in shoes with a broad heel base. This will help in reducing pressure on the heel as you walk.

Open-back sandals are not recommended as there will be hardly any support for your heel, causing you more pain while walking.

You should look for shoes with proper arch support; wearing flat shoes like flip flops or ballerinas will only overstretch the inflamed plantar fascia ligament.

Flip Flops

Slip-ons are not a good idea for insoles since these shoes are unable to hold your feet firmly during movement; the lack of a fastener or a strap means your foot moves easily inside the shoe.

Since insoles for diabetic feet have extra cushioning, it would be a good idea to purchase shoes that have additional depth to accommodate the insole.

For this reason, shoes with removable factory insoles are often preferred as there will be enough room for the insole to fit.

Try and look for shoes with breathable uppers (the outer portion of the shoe that covers the foot) that promote air circulation in the feet and prevent your feet from becoming sweaty.

Fit

As a rule of thumb, anything that is too tight or narrow must be avoided, even without insoles. These shoes will not only create more foot problems, but they’ll also defeat the whole purpose of wearing insoles in the first place.

The shoe needs to fit the foot properly without being too small as this can put restrictions on the movement of the feet especially with the insole inside the shoe.

Another factor to keep in mind is that with the insole fitted in, your shoes should still have enough room for your feet, so they don’t feel congested.

Different Shoes

A good way to test the fit would be to walk around in the shoes preferably with the insoles inside. Remember, it is normal to feel a bit of discomfort in the first few days of wearing the insole.

This should gradually subside once the break-in period is over and your feet become more adjusted to the insole.

The right shoes for your insoles

The perfect pair of shoes will complement your insoles, helping add strength and stability to your flat arches. This should improve your walking patterns while increasing your confidence to walk without pain with every step.

Another advantage of wearing the right kind of shoes is the protection provided to the feet from a number of small and big conditions of the foot.

While there are numerous benefits of wearing proper shoes, these can help even more if you’re looking for a way to protect your feet from problems for a long time to come.
